Discovering I was Ugly

When I was six years old, one of the little boys in my 1st grade class began calling me Martha the Monster.  The other kids in the class began to call me that.  I was smaller than most of the other kids my age, so there wasn't much I could do to stand up to them.  My brothers and sisters teased me also because I was so small.  I didn't get much relief at school or at home.

I spent the next few years thinking I was ugly and a monster.  I would often come home crying.  I stayed by myself and didn't have many friends.  I didn't even try to fix myself up.  I figured it wouldn't help me much, since I was so ugly.  I was the last girl of the bunch so I wore my older sisters' hand-me-downs.  They were usually too big for me, so my clothes didn't fit me right.  There I was Martha the Monster, short, small, clothes too big, and a crybaby.

The name, Martha the Monster, stuck until I was 15.   That's when I became I was a butterfly.
